Experience

  • Convener helps (great lakes, AP. American writers conference serving Cleveland)
  • Writing space
  • Pop up workshops (w/RV Roller Skate Connections)
  • Popup w/ PBJ Customs
  • Pop up through partnerships

Goals

  • Own (not rent)
  • Reach underserved communities
  • Convening space (collectively around the craft of writing

Challenges

  • Massive money needed for some spaces/ rehab
  • Transportation
  • Maintaining audience when moving around

Geography

  • Underserved
    • Mon Valley
    • East, West End
    • Outside city
    • US concentration
    • E. liberty/ Homewood

Comments

  • We have to be self funded
  • Mon Valley has building with space available, whole building is $5k
  • We need to promote the idea of Learn and Earn

Goals

  • finding ideal space for all artists
    • What type of space is ideal for literary artists?
      • Emerald City would be idea for literary artists, as would August Wilson House
      • GLAAWC=Great Lakes African American Writer’s Center
  • There is a need everywhere, especially in areas and communities like Monessen
  • Pop up with PBJ, pop up workshops for underfunded communities–this is my way of bringing art space to those places and communities that are lacking resources
  • Joyce– Rollerskating -Pittsburgh Parks program…popup skating at Schenley…roller skating in summer time in Penn Hills,/Homewood
  • Homewood Coliseum is not an option, still needs too much work
  • May be looking at space in the Hill District
  • We need to work on ways to share our social media presence and contact with everyone
